If you stay at home...

Do you do anything to bring in some extra money? If so, what do you do?

Currently, I make my own hair accessories.

But what other ways are there to bring in money?

I started taking surveys and in just 20 minutes, I actually made $12! I know it doesn't sound like much, but it does all add up. After $25 has built up, they will pay out. This particular website is great because they pay out in 3 different methods. They offer payment through paypal, direct deposit, and a check. I am not sure if they all do this, but this one website does. It's called www.fushioncash.net . They have a $5 sign on bonus, so it makes it's that much better!

Are there any other survey websites out there that you know about and like?

Check These Out!

I just got a sneak peek of my cloth diapers!! I requested Dallas Cowboys material for his wipes. Take a look at how cute they are!!

I love them!!
Here is her info!

Have you ever wondered how long does it take for things to decompose?

Have you ever wondered the same? I was talking to my husband the other day and telling him about my decision to cloth diaper. He was skeptical. So I wanted to let him know how long it takes for diapers to decompose. I looked it up-it takes a whole 550 yrs!! OMG! That's a LONG time! Think of how many diapers there are!! Even worse-disposable diapers, since creation, have yet to decompose! That's insane to think about!! But here's an example of just a few things and how long it takes to decompose-it's pretty interesting:

Banana Peel: 3-4 wks

Paper Bag: 1 mon

Cardboard: 2 mons

Wool sock: 1 yr

Tinned steel can: 50 yrs

Aluminum can: 200-500 yrs BUT if you recycle them, it can be re-used within 6 weeks!!

Disposable diapers: 550 yrs

Plastic bags: 20-1000 yrs

Plastic jug: 1 mill. yrs

Glass: 1-2 mill. yrs

Styrofoam: 1+ mill. yrs

So now seeing this, I am going to do my best to be as green as possible. I try to recycle and re-use or what have you, but I am going to start cloth diapering and looking into a few other options. Let's do our part in helping save the planet!

Ways to Save on Energy!

Have you ever thought about good ways to save on energy but can't get it all together? I have pondered ways to help save money and become energy efficient. The great part about it is that when I worked in property management (for those who do not know what that is, it's the apartment industry), I got great tips from the maintenance crew and the manager. So here I will share what I know in hopes of helping someone :)

  • Cool your home at 78 degrees or warmer with the thermostat turned on auto. And for more  savings, raise your thermostat to 82 degrees or warmer when you're not home.
  • Heat your home at 68 degrees or cooler with the thermostat turned on auto. To save even more, lower the thermostat to 65 degrees or cooler at night or when you're not home.
  • Use your dishwasher to conserve energy. Avoid pre-rinsing dishes to save up to $70 a year.
  • Lower your water heater temp from 140 degrees to 120 degrees, which is the recommended temperature setting according to the U.S. Department of Energy, to save about $7 a month.
  • Replace your A/C filter each month to help your unit run more efficiently and cut cooling costs.
  • Turn off the ceiling fan when you leave the room. A fan that runs all the time costs up to $7 a month.
  • Clean the lint filter in your dryer before every load to dry your clothes faster.
  • Did you know that using wool dryer balls is more energy efficient as well as "green?" Yep! It saves you about $5 in 2 weeks!! PLUS-you don't need to use dryer sheets!! Wool cuts your drying time by 40%! If you are interested in wool dryer balls, you can visit this website, she custom makes items! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dejahs-Baby-Boutique/131692436919986?sk=photos
  • Use energy efficient light bulbs. They can save up to $40 in electric costs over it's lifetime and they last longer.
These are only a few things that you can do! Think of the money you can save in the long run!!

What Ways Can You Help The Environment?

Let's face it, most of us are wanting to help the planet in some way, shape, or form-to make our little contribution. If you have been wanting to be Eco-friendly but don't know how or maybe you think that it's too expensive, think again!

  • One good way to help the planet is recycle. If your area offers recycling pick up that is ideal. That is how I do it, but if not, there is usually a place where you can drop off your recyclables.
  • Re-using plastic grocery bags for trash bags in the bathroom or anywhere in your house is one good way to practice being green. Then again if you would rather, usually grocery stores offer a bin to put the bags in so they can send them off to be recycled.
  • Buying re-usable grocery bags is the way to go! Sometimes you can find them for free! But ultimately they are no more than .99 so maybe pick one up here and there and then eventually you won't need the plastic grocery bags anymore!
  • Using non-aerosol sprays. Aerosol sprays have been said to deplete the ozone layer.
  • Recycling egg cartons! A lot of grocery stores have a bin for you to bring in your egg cartons!
  • For those who cloth diaper, I applaud you. It is saving our planet and every little way that you can help save the planet is key!
These are just a few ways to help save the planet and be eco-friendly. I will go over more ways in depth in other posts.

Let's do our part and help out any way that we can!
